Yes, In this Registry tip, We are going to see how can we modify some hidden settings to force windows shutdown quickly.
Let’s Do it
- Open Registry Editor
- Navigate to “HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Control Panel\Desktop”.
- In Right Side,Right click anywhere and select New = > String Value
- Name it “HungAppTimeOut” (without quotes)
- Double click on this new value and enter 1000 (1000 is millisecond value)
- Close the registry editor and you are done.

How to add a program of your choice into Right Click menu

Nice one. By the way if you type “shutdown -s -t 10″ without the quotes then also pc will shut down in 10 seconds… but if you want to stop this shutdown then you need to type shutdown -a or shutdown /a within that 10 seconds.
yup. But shutdown -s -t 10 will not force it to shutdown until you put the /f parameter. means shutdown -s -t 10 -f will do the same thing.
okay thanks for letting me know

HI Anoop, Glad you liked it.
Unparalleled accuracy, unequivocal clarity, and undeniable impotrncae!
Good tick but do makesure this wont let your window save any setting to any file!
Right Shashank,
IF you notice in first line itself we mentioned it is only good if we shutdown the computer in hurry, If we have time to shutdown properly we first close all the programs then only shut it down.
not sure if it can harm your computer
Nop. it will not harm Man.
Subhash its not working in Windows 7. My computer takes more than 1 minute to shutdown. Any idea about it.
Do you have background programs and unwanted services on your computer ? Can you go into msconfig = > services tab and hide all microsoft services. what else you see there ?
Haha useful, but i think it can cause problems to those programs you are shutting down. Obviously killing a program and not letting it shut down normally can cause corrupt data if something is not saved.
But anyway, sometimes you HAVE to shut down your computer faster and plugging it out of electricity is surely worse
